Vegetable Oils in Skin Care

We are not reinventing the wheel

Oils are currently very trendy again. Especially if you are interested in skin and hair care on Instagram, you can't avoid them. Vegetable oils have a centuries-old tradition in natural cosmetics and are therefore absolutely nothing new. Even the ancient Greeks and Romans swore by olive oil, which was readily available at the time, in body care.

Some time ago I was thinking about Laura, a classmate and friend from school. I still remember how Laura came to school with greasy hair once every 1-2 months. It was the result of an oil mask that she left in her hair for a good week. Funnily enough, if I remember correctly, it was also olive oil. At the time we thought that was a bit "weird" because of course none of us would have dared to go to school with greasy hair. But Laura had by far the longest and velvetiest hair.

During one of the project weeks, I found out that Laura also used pure oil to remove eye make-up. She had filled an old, washed-out dropper with almond oil. Today I know that it is gentle and nourishing for the skin. Nevertheless, almost 15 years would pass before I would use oils as a permanent part of my skin care routine. Today, I don't know how I ever got by without them.

A miracle cure for skin care?

Due to their properties, vegetable oils are particularly well absorbed by skin and hair and thus support the natural resistance of both in the best possible way.

1. They repair, support and strengthen the skin barrier

You may have noticed that areas of skin where you regularly apply oil are more resilient in the long term. If not, then give it a try! The rough patches don't come back after a while, the skin on your hands cracks less, and skin irritations disappear. I always notice this especially on my elbows and hands. Since I started using oil-based body care and rub the rest of my facial oil on my hands afterwards, my skin is simply healthy for the first time in a long time. When I wash dishes without gloves, for example, my hands don't immediately get sore afterwards.

This happens because regular use of oils sustainably restores and strengthens the skin barrier, thus simply ensuring greater resilience in everyday life. Vegetable oils consist of fatty acids that are also contained in the skin's cell membrane and ensure that the skin remains elastic and resilient. As a result, vegetable oils are optimally absorbed and utilized by the skin and can restore and optimally support the barrier layer.

It is therefore not surprising that the use of plant-based oils is often recommended when the skin barrier is compromised. So if you suffer from very dry skin, skin irritations or redness, then try using a facial oil. Interestingly , even very oily skin and combination skin usually have a skin barrier disorder. In this case, the barrier layer is unbalanced and sebum is overproduced. A balancing oil restores the balance and, perhaps not entirely intuitively, ensures that the skin no longer produces excess oil!

2. Vegetable oils have a moisturizing effect

It is often wrongly said that oils provide moisture. But that is not the case. Only very few oils have moisturizing properties. When the oils come into contact with the skin's own moisture, an emulsion is formed. This means that the oil can be absorbed optimally and the moisture present on the skin is locked in. They therefore have a moisture-preserving effect. This is why it is particularly recommended to use them on damp skin.

3. They have a natural effectiveness

Whether anti-aging, plumping or refining - we often smear a lot of chemicals on our faces to achieve the desired result. Nature is full of potent active ingredients and plant oils are packed with them. Essential oils are so potent that even a proportion of 0.5% is considered high! That's why our facial oils don't contain any more essential oils, because too much can cause unwanted effects and lead to irritation.

It is therefore important that you choose a facial oil that is suitable for your skin. The Alpchemist has developed two facial oils that can be used alone, but also work in a complementary way.

THE MORNING DEW OIL

After trying other facial oils, we knew that many of them were simply too heavy for daily use. We wanted to develop a light day cream that doesn't leave a greasy residue, refines the skin's texture and thus forms the optimal basis for the day - with or without make-up.

Ylang-Ylang oil

Has a calming effect and balances sebum production, which is why it is particularly suitable for oily and combination skin.

bergamot oil

Has an anti-microbial effect and clarifies oily skin. Bergamot oil also has a brightening effect, making it an effective ingredient against skin and pigment spots.
Aloe Vera

Despite its lightness, aloe vera has a strong soothing effect on redness and other skin irritations. The plant is also intensively moisturizing.

RASPBERRY OIL
A light oil that soothes, regenerates and protects. It is in MORGENTAU oil because it optimally hydrates the skin and improves elasticity, for a beautiful appearance of the skin.

    THE SUNSET OIL

The MORGENTAU oil quickly became an absolute hit. But we did get some feedback: sometimes you want a richer care product. Of course we listened! The ABENDROT oil is therefore the rich care product for optimal skin regeneration overnight, but is also great for mature and very dry skin during the day. Simply adjust the amount used!

    frankincense oil

A very potent oil that has anti-inflammatory and cell-renewing properties and Skin regenerates and tightens. It is therefore particularly suitable for a rich evening care product.

    black cumin oil

An anti-aging ingredient, full of phytosterols, vitamins and rare fatty acids. It is said to have been the secret to Cleopatra's beauty.

    lavender oil

Thanks to its pleasant scent, the oil is calming and promotes sleep. At the same time, it has an anti-inflammatory effect.

    almond oil

Great for dry skin, thanks to a higher oleic acid content. But not too high to have a negative effect on the skin barrier.

      4. Protection against environmental influences

Vegetable oils not only support the skin barrier, which ensures a generally increased resistance, but also form a protective film on the skin that forms a shield against environmental influences. Here, for example, you can make sure that your facial oil contains anti-oxidative oils.

      5. The Alpchenmist oils contain no fillers

Conventional products are often filled with fillers such as silicones and parabens. These can prevent optimal absorption of the desired active ingredients and, in the worst case, can even make your problems worse in the long term. Even if you don't get the desired "concealing" effects at first, you can restore healthy skin with natural products and no longer need beautifiers in the long term!

What should be taken into account when using it?

      1. Choose the right oil

Of course, not all oils are the same. Always choose an oil that suits your skin type and your problems.

      2. Less is more

Pure oil is very potent and very effective. Therefore, 2-3 drops are often enough, as it spreads particularly well on damp skin.

      3. Always apply to damp skin

For the best possible application experience, we recommend that you only use the product on damp skin. To do this, simply pat your face dry after washing your face. If you like, you can use a moisturizing serum beforehand, for example with hyaluronic acid, for optimal absorption.

The oil forms an emulsion with the water on damp skin, which is optimally absorbed by the skin. This means the oil does not leave a greasy residue and even feels better than a moisturizer.

Conclusion: It's about skin that you feel comfortable in

There is one thing we all want from our skincare - skin that makes us feel good. Since I started using the Alpchemist facial oils regularly again, there is one thing I need above all else: less time in the bathroom in the morning.
